      Il 2020 è stato un anno molto difficile per tutti: giocatori, team, arbitri, giudici di linea, direttori di torneo e anche per i manager dell’ATP Tour, che hanno dovuto prendere decisioni costanti sui temi più diversi, compresi gli adattamenti della classifica ATP, per rendere le classifiche il più possibile eque per tutti.
      Tuttavia, i punti della Finals ATP 2019 hanno generato qualche polemica questa settimana. Dopo un primo annuncio che tutti quei punti sarebbero stati detratti il lunedì dopo l’ATP 250 a Sofia (cioè questa settimana), non solo i punti non sono stati detratti agli otto giocatori che hanno partecipato all’evento nel 2019 (Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, Roger Federer, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev e Matteo Berrettini) ma la ‘regola’ è stata rimossa dalla pagina ATP che spiega il nuovo formato delle classifiche in questo periodo post-pandemico.

      Così con le nuove regole, i tennisti che hanno partecipato alle Finals ATP nel 2019 non perdono punti (Federer, ad esempio, mantiene 400 punti e Berrettini non perde i 200 che ha aggiunto l’anno scorso) e quelli che partecipano all’edizione di quest’anno potranno aggiungere i punti alla loro classifica solo se faranno meglio di 12 mesi fa.
      Questo cambiamento ha sorpreso i giornalisti e i tennisti di tutto il mondo. La stessa ATP Tour ha presentato all’inizio del torneo uno scenario che aveva messo in evidenza la possibilità che Dominic Thiem potesse superare Rafael Nadal al secondo posto in classifica, cosa che in fondo non potrà avvenire con le nuove regole.
